Alexei Georgievitch SUVORIN Alexei Georgievitch SUVORIN (1834 – 1912) – the Saint-Petersburg publisher, bookseller, publicist, owner and editor of The New Time newspaper.

During the 40 years of his publication activities (which began in 1872) he published more than 1,500 editions of universal nature with total circulation of 6.5 mln. copies. Especially successful were the pocketbook formats of the series "The Cheap Library", "The Scientific Cheap Library" and "The Suvorin’s New Library", as well as the yearbooks of reference nature – "The Whole of Russia", "The Whole of Moscow", "The Whole of Saint-Petersburg".

A. S. Suvorin was the first among the Russian publishers, who began publication of bibliophile editions. Some of his books on history, arts, history of literature were appreciated at their times as of unsurpassed quality. He republished many monuments of the Russian culture, along with memoirs from the Russian history.

book In 1910 A.S. Suvorin reorganized his publishing house into the joint stock company «The New Time Partnership of A.S. Suvorin" (closed in 1917).

Philosopher V.V. Rosanov denoted A.S. Suvorin as the "Napoleon of the Russian book business".
